What I Packed for Umrah: A Personal Guide

Packing for Umrah can feel overwhelming, especially if it’s your first time. I remember endlessly searching for lists, trying to balance what’s essential and ending up overpacking. So, here’s a personal guide based on my experience to help you get ready without the stress.

Travel Documents and Money

The first thing you should ensure you have ready iare your documents this includes your passport, visa, flight, hotels, vaccination and any other transportation confirmation. Make sure your passport is not expiring within 6 months from the date of your flight. make sure to carry some spare change and take your bank/travel card with you for easy payments.

Ihram Essentials

To have the correct Ihram is the second most important thing when packing Umrah. You can either wear it from home or change during your layover or before the miqat. Most flights flying to Jeddah make an announcement before crossing the miqat. As a woman, if my flight is less than 12 hours long i prefer to be in my Ihram. You can also carry an extra pair if you want to change before your Umrah.

Comfortable Footwear

I cannot stress enough how much walking you will do!

Personal Hygiene Items

I got a small toiletry bag and packed a toothbrush, a small toothpaste, nail-cutter, hair brush, hair ties, my favourite face-wash, a non-greasy moisturiser and a tinted SPF. SPF is a must as it is sunny all year round in Saudi Arabia, i would recommend SPF50 due to the intensity of the sun. I also packed an unscented deodorant and a scented one. Now, a lot of people pack unscented soap and travel-sized toiletries but is it really necessary? I would say it depends on the hotel you are staying at. Most 5 and 4 stars provide you with the essential shower toiletries. As for unscented soap, that’s more of an essential for Hajj when you are in Ihram for 5 days unlike Umrah where you are out of Ihram as soon as you have performed it. You might also want to pack a small scissor to cut the ends of your hair after you have performed Umrah. Men can go to the nearest barbers or trim/shave their hair with their own shaver.
